WorldSkills UK is delighted to run an online event, in partnership with BAE Systems, to discuss the critical importance of developing world-class skills for jobs and prosperity in the North West, helping to spread opportunity and boost productivity across the region.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has pledged to provide economic stability for the UK so businesses have the confidence to invest, innovate and create jobs. A world-class skills base is critical to attracting employers and investors to all parts of the UK, creating the high-value, well paid jobs we need for our future prosperity.

We had a fantastic panel of speakers including:

  • Bev Robinson OBE, Principal and Chief Executive, Blackpool and the Fylde College
  • Richard Hamer, Education Director, BAE Systems
  • Dr Neil Bentley-Gockmann OBE, Chief Executive, WorldSkills UK
  • Linda Dean, Executive Director for Business, Blackpool & The Fylde College
  • Dr Michele Lawty-Jones, Director, Lancashire Skills Hub

The event also celebrated the WorldSkills UK national competition finals week, where young people from all over the UK showcased their technical expertise and gained confidence and valuable employability skills from taking part.

If you missed this important discussion, you can watch the event on-demand below and hear how businesses, governments and skills providers are working together to make a positive difference to young people in the North West and to explore how developing world-class skills can help level up our economy.
