Engaging standards to move from competence to excellence through marginal gains –
The Competence to Excellence sessions introduce and explain the WorldSkills UK 7 step process and how this training methodology can be embedded into the classroom.
Establishing an understanding of the need for high quality competences that serve the needs of industry, whilst looking at tangible ways to encourage all learners to adopt an “excellence mindset” through a motivated, continuous personal best approach. Educators examine the sources and influences on their own individual standards and consider methods to reset and raise standards to continually drive and encourage learner progress.
Optimising demonstrations and feedback strategies to raise learner confidence and autonomy –
Quality demonstrations play a key role in the way that educators effectively convey high standards, this session focuses on optimal strategies for planning and delivering effective and engaging practical demonstrations.
The session also explores feedback strategies as a critical part of the development of performance analysis skills and how the feedback cycle can be used to promote criticality, independence, and autonomous learning.
The Assessment for Excellence sessions continue to follow the WorldSkills UK 7 step process to introduce educators to competition-based activity to use as a continuous quality improvement tool.
There is a deeper focus on how to write measurement and judgement criteria where educators will design their own pressure test to implement, judge and evaluate as a benchmarking resource.
Finally, the sessions develop opportunities to further develop ideas and resources to raise standards in the classroom to meet the requirements of the Inspection Frameworks.
Coaching for Excellence is a coach lead CPD module of four 1hr sessions, each designed to introduce educators to a system for supporting their learners through the various phases of a learning and performance journey. WorldSkills UK uses performance psychology in the talent development pipeline training of Squad and Team UK, the strategies used in this module are therefor, a tried and tested formula that training mangers and the performance and wellbeing team use to enable high performance.
The sessions are designed to focus on the development of psychosocial behaviours that learners can develop and use to help them negotiate their studies, careers and the general challenges life presents. The content is applicable to learners of every level and contributes to their confidence, self-efficacy, autonomy and employability. WorldSkills UK prioritises strategies for increasing learner autonomy within its pedagogical approach.
Building on 70 years of international benchmarking, the teacher training programme offers an evidence-based approach to codify the art and science of exceptional teaching, learning, and assessment for educators in further and higher technical education.
