Max’s journey into the world of cyber security and competitions began with a passion for problem-solving, nurtured through video games and escape rooms. This interest was deepened by his lecturer, who introduced him to WorldSkills, sparking Max’s enthusiasm for competitive challenges.
Max chose to pursue his higher education at the University of South Wales, focusing on applied cyber security. Early on, he engaged in competitions, driven by his ambition to excel. Max is determined to achieve gold in the upcoming competition in September, reflecting his competitive spirit and dedication.
His interest in cyber security blossomed under the guidance of a former A-level lecturer who introduced him to the field. Max has been on a significant journey with Squad UK, earning a bronze medal alongside his teammate at the 2021 WorldSkills UK National Finals. Since then, he has tirelessly demonstrated his skills to earn a place on the team representing the UK at WorldSkills Lyon.
Reflecting on his selection for Team UK, Max expressed, “I’m really happy about it. It’s a great opportunity and very exciting. Not many people get this chance.”
Discussing his schedule leading up to Lyon, Max shared, “I’m constantly training whenever I can, even on weekends. Working in cyber security fills my days, providing valuable experience. Balancing training with work has been challenging, but I’ve adapted to the mindset shift. It’s demanding, but worthwhile.”
Max credits his involvement with WorldSkills for enhancing his career prospects. “It’s a key highlight on my CV and a topic I often discuss in interviews. I believe it played a role in landing my current job,” he emphasised.
Looking forward to WorldSkills Lyon, Max is excited about witnessing the event unfold, including its scale and atmosphere. “It will be an incredible experience,” he said. “I am eager to fully immerse myself in the competition.”
Max concludes by saying, “Everyone should get involved with WorldSkills UK; it’s a fantastic experience.”
