This module will help you to understand how electricity works by offering an introduction to electrical fundamentals which covers atomic structure, electrical charge, free electrons, electron current and electric voltage. You will then move on to more focused learning on direct and AC voltage, covering voltage sources and looks at how AC voltage is generated.

The module takes around 90 minutes to complete. You will be continually tested as you work your way through the module, with a series of quizzes and other activities. Once you have completed all sections successfully, you will be awarded a downloadable WorldSkills UK certificate.

Learning outcomes

In this module, you will learn to:

  • understand light vehicle electrical and electronic principles

  • understand the direction of current flow and electron flow

  • measure the voltage of electrical components

  • understand the two different sources of voltage.
