Accounting is the recording of financial transactions along with storing, sorting, retrieving, summarising, and presenting the results in various reports and analyses. Accounting is also a field of study and profession dedicated to carrying out those tasks.


This competition has been designed to test the skills of a Trainee Accountant.

The competition will put the students in the shoes of a team of chartered accountants working in a professional services firm.

The competition will be as follows:

The team will be approached by a client that is seeking assistance for the following:

  • Supply chain issues
  • Exploring new markets or product lines
  • Undergoing financial expansion.

The teams will be required to analyse the issues and formulate recommendations which they will present back to the judges who act as the management team of the client.

During the challenge the judges will assess the students skills such as:

  • Communication
  • Commercial acumen
  • Critical analysis
  • Team work

The highest scoring team will be the one that has utilised these skills most effectively to develop and present their recommendations.

Entry criteria

  • This is a team competition
  • There are to be 4-6 people per team
  • Candidates must be apprentices in their first year, level 7 or have completed level 4
