Overview

This competition is managed by NET and is also known as SkillELECTRIC, and has been designed to reflect the role of an electrical technician and the standards that are expected within the electrotechnical industry.

Competitors are expected to install a range of electrical and lighting circuits and containment systems including PVC/ PVC surface clipping, plastic conduit, trunking and cables.

In addition to core electrotechnical skills, an electrician’s role in low carbon installation will be embedded throughout the competition.

How Elis’ resilience, determination, and technical excellence led to a WorldSkills UK Gold medal.

The skills you need to demonstrate

  • Positioning of components in relation to technical plans

  • Installing lighting and power circuits

  • Inspection, testing, fault-finding and rectification of installations

  • Correct functioning of electrical circuitry

  • Compliance with BS 7671: IET Wiring Regulations

  • Interpreting drawings and installations details

Prepare for competition success

Our library of endorsed local skills competition briefs ‘benchmarking assessments’ helps prepare learners to build technical skills, productivity, and mindset competencies for national competition success, including employability progression pathways.

Paired with the benchmarking tracker, educators can record progress, identifying strengths and target areas for improvement. Together, they offer a reliable, standards-led framework, creating a sustainable model for skills development that supports educators to empower learners to be competition ready.
