WorldSkills UK LIVE Online

Tuesday, 29 Sep 2020

Today we launched WorldSkills UK LIVE online, our exciting new digital offering as we continue our focus on inspiring, developing and mainstreaming excellence in skills for young people  across the UK.

Kicking off WorldSkills UK LIVE online are our Diversity and Inclusion Heroes Awards, in partnership with Coca-Cola European Partners.  Now open for entries, the awards honour individuals who are going above and beyond, inspiring excellence by championing diversity and inclusion with their organisations and the wider technical education sector.  The winners will be celebrated in a glittering virtual ceremony in January.

Taking place from 11 – 12 November, the WorldSkills UK LIVE online:  International Skills Summit will bring together leaders in industry and education to explore how global standards of excellence can be mainstreamed in skills policy and practice across the UK to engage young people in apprenticeships and technical education.

Recreating a favourite from WorldSkills UK LIVE, which is postponed until 2021, the WorldSkills UK LIVE online:  Spotlight Talks on Careers, Apprenticeships and Excellence in partnership with BAE Systems will take place from 26-28 November.  It will feature inspirational speakers including Nadiya Hussain from The Great British Bake Off, the UK’s leading employers and apprentices and careers advisers to inspire and support young people to confidently take the next step on their career ladder.

Ben Blackledge, the Deputy Chief Executive, WorldSkills UK said:  “We know that young people are being disproportionally impacted by this pandemic which is why earlier this year we set out our commitment to digitise our offering.  Today’s announcement further builds on that commitment and will enable us to support more and more young people to achieve higher standards.

“WorldSkills UK LIVE online is part of our ambition to lead the way in developing world-class skills and tackle vocational snobbery head on.  We want to help create more prestige for apprenticeships and technical qualifications to boost career aspirations as we know that highly skilled, motivated young people will be crucial to the economic recovery of the UK.”
