Saturday, 11 Jun 2016

Members of the medal-winning team that represented the UK at WorldSkills São Paulo 2015 have been named in The Queen’s Birthday Honours 2016.

The Honours, which celebrate the achievements of extraordinary people across the UK, were awarded to:

Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE)

  • Christian Notley, UK Expert for Cabinet Making and lecturer at Chichester College, for services to the South East and to WorldSkills competitions in Leipzig 2013 and São Paulo 2015.

British Empire Medal (BEM)

  • Edward Harringman, Gold Medallist, Cabinet Making, who works at Halstock, for services to skills.
  • Rianne Chester, Gold Medallist, Beauty Therapy, who owns ‘Beauty by Rianne’, for services to skills.
  • Gary Doyle, Gold Medallist, Plumbing and Heating, who is self-employed, for services to skills.

Following their gold-medal winning success at WorldSkills São Paulo 2015, Rianne, Gary and Edward now volunteer as WorldSkills UK Champions.  Visiting schools, speaking at career events and supporting entrants in skills competitions, the Champions play an important role in helping young people understand the opportunities that an apprenticeship can offer.  Christian Notley is continuing in his role as UK Expert and is now training Squad UK members in Cabinet Making for EuroSkills Gothenburg 2016 and WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017.

Dr Neil Bentley, Chief Executive, WorldSkills UK said:

“Christian, Rianne, Gary and Edward helped to deliver the UK’s best ever result at WorldSkills São Paulo 2015, sending out a strong message that apprenticeships and vocational training really can lead to great career success.  It is a privilege to work alongside them to show other young people, from all backgrounds, that there has never been a better time to consider an apprenticeship.”
