The latest episodes focus on four key industries: catering & hospitality, engineering & manufacturing, construction and digital, with a range of guest speakers including celebrity Maître d’hôtel Fred Sirieix and chef Tom Kerridge, industry experts in construction and digital, and new recruits including graduates and apprentices just starting out in their careers.

Each episode outlines routes into each industry and includes an interactive challenge designed to fit within the curriculum, and focus on STEM where applicable.

In this episode celebrity maitre d’hotel Fred Sirieix and Chef Tom Kerridge explain what the sector means to them and why they chose it as a career. We speak to new entrants who share their experiences and offer top tips to consider when starting out.

We outline routes into the industry from college courses through to apprenticeships and our industry partners Springboard and the UK Hospitality Group, share their insights into the latest industry trends and the variety of roles on offer, from joining large established brands, through to starting your own business.

Episode 2 - Design and development for engineering and manufacturing

Thinking in three dimensions

The 3D printing revolution has changed the face of manufacturing. Products are designed using new techniques, such as generative design, and produced by additive manufacturing. This episode considers this emerging industry and identifies how to kickstart your career.

We speak to new recruits just starting out in the advanced manufacturing sector. We explore a mini-project in 3D printing, designed by Create Education, and talk to Robert Stott from City & Guilds about how this emerging area of industry is covered in engineering and manufacturing T-Levels and related UK qualifications.

The way we look at construction and the built environment is changing, with an increasing importance on digital skills and the need to adopt a more sustainable approach.  Our partner the CITB is developing a recognised, world class, innovative workforce to deliver the highest quality in the built environment.

We hear from them as they share the latest industry trends and scope the size and scale of opportunity in the construction industry. We interview a number of new joiners into the industry who share their first-hand experience of how construction is changing, and explore the practical challenges of sustainability with a series of real-world examples.

There are many roles and routes into the digital industry from digital marketing to cyber security. BCS help us explore the wide range of digital careers available, identify the skills and knowledge required and share the ‘inside track’ on working as a digital apprentice. As well as highlighting the new T-Level and HTQ qualifications available.
