Humans can only focus on a limited number of items at any one time, this means that when you are carrying out a task if you get distracted, you can miss vital information that is necessary to complete a task. Distractions can be internal, such as the negative things we say to ourselves after a mistake, and they can be external and outside of your control, such as noises or people walking past. When you start to notice any distractions it often means that there is not enough focus left for you to perform the task and that is when mistakes happen.
