Joiners work with timber to construct doors, windows, fitted furniture and other permanent fixtures within buildings. They will often prepare items in a workshop before going to the site to install the completed items.

This competition has been designed to reflect the role of a joiner and the standards that are expected within the construction industry.

Entry criteria

  • This is an individual competition and competitors must be proficient with the core competencies above.
  • To be eligible to take part in WorldSkills Lyon 2023 you must be born on or after 1 January 2001.

National Qualifier dates

  • Northern Ireland: 3 June
  • England, Scotland and Wales: 8 June, 10 June,  15 June, 17 June, 22 June, 24 June

How it works

Our competitions are open to all so please register before 14 May

The first stage of competition is a remote or online test (where applicable)

Competitors take part in competitions at their local college, training provider centre or work place, or, take part in an online competition

Scores are quality assured and Finalists are announced

Competitors prepare and practise in readiness for the National Finals

The Finalists come together to compete in the National Finals

Competitors who are age eligible and have achieved the benchmark score will be invited to opt into Squad UK during December 2022 for the WorldSkills Lyon 2024 cycle
