Designed for educators and students, we’ll be sharing backgrounds on four particular industries: catering & hospitality, engineering & manufacturing, construction and digital. We’ll discuss routes into these industries, with interactive challenges thrown in along the way. For each episode, the challenge will work to educators’ feedback to ensure the sessions fits within the curriculum, with a focus on STEM where applicable.

We will be featuring a variety of fantastic guest speakers, including chefs Fred Sireix and Tom Kerridge, industry experts in construction and digital support as well as a variety of new recruits including graduates and apprentices just starting out in their careers.

Episode 1 - Catering and Hospitality

A Recipe for Career Success

With Springboard and the Hospitality Apprenticeship group

In this episode Celebrity Maitre d’hotel Fred Sirieix and Chef Tom Kerridge explain what the sector means to them and why they chose it as a career. We also speak to new entrants who share their experiences and offer top tips to consider when starting out.  We outline routes into the industry from college courses through to apprenticeships.

Our industry partners Springboard and the UK Hospitality Group, share their insights into latest industry trends and the variety of roles on offer from joining large established brands, through to starting your own business.

Episode 2 - Design and development for engineering and manufacturing

Thinking in three dimensions

With Autodesk

The 3D printing revolution has changed the face of manufacturing. Products are designed using new techniques, such as generative design, and produced by additive manufacturing. This episode considers this emerging industry and identifies how you kickstart your career.

We speak to new recruits just starting out in their career about their role in this advanced manufacturing sector. We explore a mini-project in 3D printing, designed by Create Education, and talk to Robert Stott from City & Guilds about how this emerging area of industry is covered in engineering and manufacturing T-Levels and related UK qualifications.

Episode 3 - Design, building services and onsite construction

Building the future, today

With CITB and Homeserve Foundation

The way we look at construction and the built environment is changing, with an increasing importance on digital skills and the need to adopt a more sustainable approach.  Our partner the CITB is developing a recognised, world class, Innovative workforce to deliver the highest quality in the built environment.

We hear from them as they share the latest industry trends and scope the size and scale of opportunity in the construction industry. We also interview a number of new joiners into the industry who share their first-hand experience of how construction is changing. We also explore the practical challenges of sustainability with a series of real-world examples.

Episode 4 - Digital support and business services

Routes and roles in the digital industry

There are many roles and routes into the digital indsutry. From digital marketing to cyber security, digital careers are constantly developing. Explore with BCS what digital careers are available, discover what it is like working in this role as an apprentice, the career and teaching resources on hand to sample the skills and knowledge needed and the new T-Level and HTQ qualifications available.
