Designed for educators and students, we shared backgrounds on four particular industries: catering & hospitality, engineering & manufacturing, construction and digital. We discussed routes into these industries, with interactive challenges thrown in along the way. For each episode, the challenge will work to educators’ feedback to ensure the sessions fits within the curriculum, with a focus on STEM where applicable.

We featured a variety of fantastic guest speakers, including chefs Fred Sireix and Tom Kerridge, industry experts in construction and digital support as well as a variety of new recruits including graduates and apprentices just starting out in their careers.

A Recipe for Career Success

In this episode Celebrity Maitre d’hotel Fred Sirieix and Chef Tom Kerridge explained what the sector means to them and why they chose it as a career. We also spoke to new entrants who shared their experiences and offered top tips to consider when starting out.  We outlined routes into the industry from college courses through to apprenticeships.

Our industry partners Springboard and the UK Hospitality Group, shared their insights into latest industry trends and the variety of roles on offer from joining large established brands, through to starting your own business.

Episode 2 - Design and development for engineering and manufacturing

Thinking in three dimensions

The 3D printing revolution has changed the face of manufacturing. Products are designed using new techniques, such as generative design, and produced by additive manufacturing. This episode considered this emerging industry and identified how you kickstart your career.

We spoke to new recruits just starting out in their career about their role in this advanced manufacturing sector. We explored a mini-project in 3D printing, designed by Create Education, and talked to Robert Stott from City & Guilds about how this emerging area of industry is covered in engineering and manufacturing T-Levels and related UK qualifications.

Building the future, today

The way we look at construction and the built environment is changing, with an increasing importance on digital skills and the need to adopt a more sustainable approach.  Our partner the CITB is developing a recognised, world class, Innovative workforce to deliver the highest quality in the built environment.

We heard from them as they shared the latest industry trends and scoped the size and scale of opportunity in the construction industry. We also interviewed a number of new joiners into the industry who shared their first-hand experience of how construction is changing. We also explored the practical challenges of sustainability with a series of real-world examples.

There are many roles and routes into the digital indsutry. From digital marketing to cyber security, digital careers are constantly developing.
