Celebrate your success

My journey through WorldSkills UK has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career so far. It has shown me that setbacks don’t define you – it’s how you respond to them that matters.

In 2024, I competed in the Scottish heat of SkillELECTRIC with high hopes but didn’t progress to the UK final. Although I was disappointed, I used the experience as motivation rather than letting it knock my confidence. I reflected on my performance, identified the areas where I could improve, and spent the next year developing my technical skills, confidence, and ability to perform under pressure.

When I returned in 2025, I was determined to make the most of another opportunity. I competed in the Scottish heat again and was proud to win, earning my place at the SkillELECTRIC UK final. Reaching the final was a huge milestone, especially knowing how much work had gone into getting there after the previous year’s setback.

Going on to win the SkillELECTRIC UK final was something I could never have imagined after my experience in 2024. Looking back, not progressing the first time was one of the best things that could have happened because it gave me the motivation to work harder, improve, and come back stronger. The journey from not making it past the Scottish heat to becoming the UK champion the following year is something I’ll always be proud of. Becoming a WorldSkills UK Skills Champion has made that achievement even more meaningful, as it gives me the opportunity to inspire others and show what can be achieved through hard work, resilience, and determination.

Taking part in WorldSkills UK competitions has helped me grow both personally and professionally. It has strengthened my technical skills in electrical installation, inspection and testing, planning, and working accurately under pressure. Beyond the technical side, I’ve developed confidence, communication, time management, adaptability, and problem-solving skills that I use every day in my career. I’ve also had the opportunity to meet talented competitors, mentors, and industry professionals who have inspired me to keep learning, developing, and aiming higher.

This journey has reinforced my ambition to continue improving my skills and making the most of every opportunity that comes my way. More than anything, it has taught me that success isn’t about getting everything right the first time – it’s about learning from every experience, staying determined, and never giving up. I hope my journey encourages others to take on opportunities with WorldSkills UK, because you never know where they might lead. My own journey is proof that one setback can be the start of something even greater.

Explain what makes you skilled

My journey to becoming a skilled electrician has been driven by a passion for learning, a willingness to challenge myself, and a commitment to always improving. From the beginning of my apprenticeship, I knew I wanted to be more than just competent – I wanted to be the best electrician I could be.

As a woman in the electrical industry, I’ve often found myself working in environments where I’m the only female on site. Rather than seeing that as a barrier, I’ve used it as motivation to prove that skill, determination, and professionalism matter far more than stereotypes. I hope that by succeeding in competitions like SkillELECTRIC and becoming a WorldSkills UK Skills Champion, I can encourage more women and girls to consider a career in the trades and show them that they belong in the industry too.

Throughout my training, I’ve worked hard to build a strong foundation in electrical installation, inspection and testing, fault finding, and working safely to the highest standards. Every job has been an opportunity to learn something new, whether that’s finding more efficient ways of working, solving complex problems, or improving the quality and accuracy of my work. I’ve learned that being skilled isn’t just about technical ability; it’s also about communication, planning, attention to detail, adaptability, teamwork, and remaining calm under pressure.

Competing in SkillELECTRIC has played a huge role in my development. The competition challenged me to work to an exceptionally high standard while managing strict time limits. After not progressing beyond the Scottish heat in 2024, I could have accepted that result, but instead I used it as motivation. I dedicated time to improving my technical knowledge, refining my practical skills, and building the confidence needed to perform under pressure.

Returning in 2025, I won the Scottish heat to secure my place at the UK final before going on to get first at the SkillELECTRIC UK Final. That achievement wasn’t the result of one good performance – it came from months of preparation, determination, resilience, and a willingness to keep learning from every challenge I faced.

What drives me is the satisfaction of continually improving and knowing there’s always something new to learn. The electrical industry is constantly evolving, and I enjoy developing new skills, embracing new technologies, and pushing myself to achieve higher standards. Becoming a WorldSkills UK Skills Champion has given me the opportunity to inspire others, promote skilled trades, and demonstrate that with hard work, resilience, and dedication, anyone can succeed.

For me, it’s about having the mindset to keep learning, keep improving, and always striving for excellence.
