Overview

This year, the Sheet Metalwork Technology competition will not run under the WorldSkills UK competition framework and will be delivered as an industry competition.

Sheet Metalworkers design and produce products using hand assembly and the latest technology to produce versatile products, from Computer Chassis, to Aerospace, construction, retail and catering products.

Competitors will be tested on a wide range of skills to reflect the role of a modern sheet metalworker. Sheetmetal Workers may have a variety of roles within the industry including designing and developing the next generation of sheet metalwork products, manufacturing, prototyping, inspection or quality assurance of production or in-service products.

  • Manual dexterity

  • Precision

  • Interpret drawings

  • Welding, joining and finishing

Entry criteria

  • To enter the Sheet Metalwork competition, the entrant needs to be on a qualification with a recognised awarding body, at a Further Education College or an independent training provider, or an apprentice employed in the industry.
  • Entrants from Scotland. Northern Ireland and Wales need to be enrolled on the equivalent courses in their appropriate devolved nations.
  • The competition is designed to be for entrants who have started their first year at level 3 in their chosen qualification or apprenticeship.
  • However competent entrants, who are in their second year at level 2, are encouraged to enter, for the value-added experience.
  • The competition is an individual event, each competitor will be working on their own, throughout the competition.

 

How it works

Our competitions are open to all so please register between 27 February – 24 March 2023

The first stage of competition is a remote or online test (where applicable)

Competitors take part in competitions in venues across the UK or online

Scores are quality assured and Finalists are announced

Competitors prepare and practise in readiness for the National Finals

The Finalists come together to compete in the National Finals

Competitors who are age eligible and have achieved the benchmark score will be invited to opt into Squad UK during December 2022 for the WorldSkills Lyon 2024 cycle
