A Nail Technician is a specialist who tends to the grooming and improvement in the appearance of the client’s nails, hands and feet. Nail Technicians have creative flair for nail enhancements but equally provide manicures, pedicures, nail shaping and general grooming, as well as offering artificial nail services including the application of nail polish and gel polish. Pedicures and the application of artificial toenails can also be performed.

This competition focuses on the roles and talents of a Nail Technician, bringing in creative tasks, which reflect current trends within the nail industry.

The competition focuses on the role and tasks of a Nail Technician carrying out a range of services, which reflect both current and traditional standards as well as industry requirements. This may include nail care, nail technology and nail art.

As a competitor, you will also be tested on health and safety, exceptional client care and communication skills. Ideally you are looking to demonstrate your specialist skills and technical knowledge to the highest level with a view to progressing your career further in the nail industry.

Entry criteria

  • This is an individual competition
  • There is no limit to the number of entries per organisation
  • Competitors must be familiar with the core competencies below
  • Competitors must have achieved a full or working towards a Level 2 Nail Diploma qualification, within the last two years and/or are enrolled in an appropriate programme of study towards Level 3 or up to SCQF level 6

Prepare learners to take part in competition by developing their technical and mental skills so they can compete at their best – there are lots of tools and resources available to help you

Learners who get through the passive stage (where they will be expected to prepare a submission for entry or participate in an online assessment), will be invited to take part in national qualifiers which take place across the UK between April and June. All competitors receive certification for their achievements at the qualifiers

The highest performers from the national qualifiers are invited to compete in the UK National Finals in November at WorldSkills UK LIVE, the UK’s largest skills, apprenticeship and careers event
