Overview

Fitness Assistant’s work in gym environments, supporting Fitness Instructors and Personal Trainers with the delivery of exercise and physical activity.

Throughout the competition, competitors will need to fulfil a range of tasks that would be required of an assistant fitness instructor.

The skills you need to demonstrate

  • Demonstrating a range of exercises

  • Working as part of a team

  • Encouraging and motivating clients

  • Checking technique

  • Setting up and organising equipment

  • Recording information on environment and clients

Entry criteria

  • Must be enrolled for a Level 1 Certificate Fitness or equivalent.
  • Must not have a qualification higher than RQF/CQFW Level 1, SCQF Level 4 or other equivalent
  • Must have a cognitive impairment or physical disability which would prevent them from ever being likely to be able to study for an RQF/CQFW Level 3, SCQF Level 6 or other equivalent level.
  • Must not have achieved their qualification on or before the 1st of September of the academic year the competition runs

A statement of support stating the individual needs of the competitor must be submitted when registering.

Prepare learners to take part in competition by developing their technical and mental skills so they can compete at their best – there are lots of tools and resources available to help you

Learners who get through the passive stage (where they will be expected to prepare a submission for entry or participate in an online assessment), will be invited to take part in national qualifiers which take place across the UK between April and June. All competitors receive certification for their achievements at the qualifiers

The highest performers from the national qualifiers are invited to compete in the UK National Finals in November at WorldSkills UK LIVE, the UK’s largest skills, apprenticeship and careers event

In light of the ongoing uncertainty relating to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will not be running the WorldSkills UK national competition cycle in 2020. We expect to resume competitions in 2021 and urge you to register your interest now so we can keep you advised of developments.
