The atmosphere. The cheers of my friends, family, tutors, mentors and team-mates. The home crowd cheering, whistling and throwing streamers when I finished competing. I was so proud. It made the long journey well worth the hard work. And the year of training, travelling, learning new skills, meeting famous florists... I’ll never forget it.

Victoria Richards Won Gold at the national WorldSkills UK competition, went on to represent the UK at WorldSkills London 2011 and was awarded a Medallion for Excellence.

Pastry’s not exactly football. However, I knew I’d never play for England and I couldn’t turn down the chance to represent my country at something else. Training for WorldSkills was fast paced and exciting, I crammed 20 years’ worth of work experience into 18 months. I’ve performed on a world stage, won awards and now I’m doing a TV show with Jamie Oliver.

Will Torrent, Consultant Pastry Chef, represented the UK at WorldSkills Shizuoka 2007, bringing home a Medallion for Excellence.
