Web Development Competition

Overview

Web Developers are the architects behind the websites and web applications we use every day. Proficiency in web development languages stands as one of the most desired skill sets in the tech job market. JavaScript, along with PHP, remains at the forefront, as an increasing number of applications transition from traditional platforms to the web environment. Web development integrates various disciplines, including user interface design, HTML & CSS client-side scripting with JavaScript, server-side development with PHP, and database management to ensure the creation of robust, scalable, and accessible web platforms. A key aspect of their job is to make sure that websites are user-friendly and accessible to everyone, everywhere, regardless of the device being used.

A Web Developer’s job is multifaceted, requiring a balance of hard and soft skills to build effective, secure, and accessible web solutions. These skills combined allow developers to navigate the complexities of web development while delivering user-centric products.

Entry criteria

This is an individual competition
There is no limit to the number of competitors permitted to enter this competition per organisation.
Competitors should be familiar with the core competencies (these can be found in the Technical Handbook, Core Competencies > Matrix) and must be working towards, or recently completed in the last 12 months, a relevant Level 3/4 qualification, A-level, ND, or HNC if in the England or Northern Ireland. A Level 3/4 CQFW, if in Wales, a Level 6/7 SCQF qualification if in Scotland or an Advanced or Higher level Apprenticeship/Degree Apprenticeship.

How it works

1. Register

Registrations are now open and close midnight 28th March 2024.

2. Entry Stage

The first stage of competition is a remote or online test (where applicable), sent from our system on the 15th April 2024 and have until the 26th of April 2024 to complete it.

3. National Qualifiers

Remote qualifier on the 5th, 6th & 7th of June 2024.

4. Training and Development

5. National Finals

National finals will take place between the 18th-22nd November 2024 in Manchester (venues TBC)

6. Squad UK

Competitors who are age eligible and have achieved the benchmark score will be invited to opt into Squad UK during December 2024 for the WorldSkills 2026 Cycle, subject to the skill progressing to the international competition cycle.
