Entry Levels: Intermediate and Advanced

Entry Deadline: 29 February 2008

Entry Type: Individual competitors

Competition Type: Live

Who is this competition for?

There are two beauty therapy competitions for individuals to enter:

  • Intermediate: equivalent to Level 2 and/or up to 2 years experience/training
  • Advanced: equivalent to Level 3 and/or 2-7 years experience/training

Those who can enter should be over the age of 16 and currently training to be beauty therapists.

What does the competition prepare you for?

The competitions support the training and preparation for the role of a beauty therapy practitioner.  Normally beauty therapy training takes place through a one-year or two-year full-time course at a college, or a private beauty school where the training may be shorter and more intense.  Once qualified, opportunities exist in high street salons and beauty clinics, hospitals, health spas, hotels and health farms. Beauty therapists can also become self-employed, either working from home or travelling to clients' homes, or by owning their own salon.

What does the competition cover?

These extremely popular live competitions test competitors’ skills in tasks drawn from the beauty therapist’s role. At Intermediate level the competition tasks will include:

  • Waxing
  • Manicure
  • Facial and make up

At Advanced level the competition tasks will include:

  • Body faradic treatment
  • Full body massage
  • Facial galvanic treatment

Stage 1: Regional heats will be held in May 2008 (dates coming soon!)
Stage 2: If they reach the minimum standard, regional winners will go through to the UK Final to be held in June 2008.

What happens if I win?

The winners of the UK final competitions will be invited to a high profile national awards event.

Subject to eligibility, outstanding national winners of the advanced competition may be invited to compete for a place in the UK team for the EuroSkills or WorldSkills Competitions.
