Who is this competition for?
This competition is offered at two levels:
Intermediate Level - Competitors must be over 16 years of age and studying towards
a nationally recognised level 2 qualification (NVQ/SVQ) or have the equivalent of up to 4 years
experience and/or training.
Advanced Level - Competitors must be over 16 years of age and studying towards a
nationally recognised level 3 qualification (NVQ/SVQ) or have the equivalent of 4 -7 years
experience and/or training.
What does the competition prepare you for?
These competitions place you within the role of a Nail Technician. Nail Technicians apply false nails and extensions which transform the appearance of a persons hands. They may also use art techniques to decorate the nails in a variety of ways. The Nail Technician normally works in beauty/hairdressing salons and specialist nail salons as well as nail bars in large department stores, airports and shopping malls. There are also opportunities to become self employed, to teach nail techniques to others or to work on photography and fashion shoots.
What does the competition cover?
Nail Art is a live competition where all competitors are assessed on an allocated day and judged by a panel of professionals in the field. Competitors must demonstrate a commercially acceptable nail art treatment using a range of nail art mediums. Competitors will be marked on the use of any of the below mediums:
- Hand painting
- Glitters
- Rhinestones and flat stones
- Striping
- Foiling
- Charms/decals/embellishments
This competition will allow you to display your skills and creative flair.
In March 2008 competitors will be allocated to heats across the country, these will be run in
April – May 2008 with final to be held in June 2008. Please continue to check back on the website

What happens if I win?
Top scorers across the regional competitions will be invited to compete in the UK Final.
The winner of the UK Final at both levels will be invited to a high profile national awards
event.
