Who is this competition for?
This competition is for teams of up to eight young people aged 14 to 16 years of age, who are learning at school and college or just at college. Teams work to complete a challenge of their choice which benefits the local community.
What does the competition prepare you for?
This competition gives you the opportunity to:
- Demonstrate your talent and potential to your community
- Make a real difference for other people
- Try new things
- Explore what interests you
- Build your skills and qualities
Formal examinations and qualifications are important but they don’t show everything you can do. The Schools-College Challenge provides you with the opportunity to work in a team, to set your own objectives and then to find creative ways of meeting and exceeding these objectives. Your project may take you into the world of work where you can apply what you’ve learned in an adult business setting.
What does the competition cover?
Challenges take place over approximately six months. Groups, working with tutors at their local
college, agree their challenge and then work together to meet this challenge. Past challenges have
included bricklaying students regenerating the playground of a local primary school and business
students acting as consultants to increase the turnover and profits of a floristry shop.
Competitors are expected to
- create and justify their challenge
- carry the challenge through
- present their results and achievements
- show what they have learnt and what they can do at a high profile awards ceremony.
