About the competition - CNC Turning
The CNC turning competitions prepare you for industry by putting you in the role of the CNC machinist, who uses CNC machine tools to cut, drill, shape and finish products and components used in engineering and manufacturing.
Dates and venues for this competition will be available during January 2009. At this time you will be manually allocated to relevant heat.

Who can enter?
This competition is intended for those working or training towards a relevant CNC milling or turning programme of study at level 3 (BTEC or S/NVQ).
How many can enter?
Up to three competitors per organisation per competition.
Assessment criteria
- Manufacturing components
- Selecting and setting the appropriate holding devices and tooling
- Reading engineering drawings and converting these into machining programmes
Competition structure
Stage one: enter online between 7 January – 9 April 2009.
Stage two: competitors compete in a heat.
Stage three: highest scoring competitors across all heats that meet the required standard
will be invited to compete at the UK final.
