About the competition - Car Painting - Closed

This competition provides an exciting opportunity for technicians to demonstrate their problem solving, time management and planning skills, whilst displaying their technical skills. The competition is based on National Occupational Standards (NOS).

The practical tests include preparation, priming and flatting procedures, preparation and painting of plastics, sealing techniques, colour identification and mixing, and preparation and application of wet-on-wet paint processes and masking techniques.

Dates and venues of competition heats are not yet available; if you have registered already, you will be notified when you are able to choose which heat you would like to attend, if your competition is to have heats.

Competition Type: Mixed

Competition structure

Stage one: enter online at www.skillauto.co.uk by 4 February 2010.

Stage two: complete an online test containing body repair technology related questions.

Stage three: highest scoring competitors from the online test are invited to compete in a heat during February/May 2010.

Stage four: highest scoring competitors across all heats that meet the required standard will be invited to compete at the UK final.

How many can enter?

There are no restrictions on the number of competitors that can be entered.

Who can enter?

The competition is intended for technicians working towards their S/NVQ Level 3 in vehicle body and paint operations. Competitors can be in education and training or working in
industry.

Advanced: Those undertaking qualifications up to level 3 (for England, Northern Ireland and Wales), up to level 6 (for Scotland) or up to three years experience in a working environment.

Further opportunities

There is a City & Guilds qualification available for this competition.

There is the possibility of progressing to an International WorldSkills competition.
