About the competition - Car Painting
This competition provides an exciting opportunity for individuals to demonstrate their problem
solving, time management and planning skills, whilst displaying their technical skills.
The competition will consist primarily of practical painting tasks based on the Automotive
Technician Accreditation.
The practical tests include preparation, priming and flatting procedures, preparation and
painting of plastics, sealing techniques, colour identification and mixing, and preparation and
application of wet-on-wet paint processes and masking techniques.

Who can enter?
The competition is intended for technicians with up to three years experience in training and/or working environment.
How many can enter?
There are no restrictions on the number of competitors that can enter from any one organisation.
Assessment criteria
- Preparation and application of undercoats
- Application of basecoat
- Application of clearcoat and solid colours
- Matching colours
- Preparation and painting of plastics
- Measuring and decoration
Competition structure
Stage one: enter online at
www.skillauto.co.uk
Stage two: complete an online test containing painting technology related questions.
Stage three: highest scoring competitors are invited to compete in a heat during
February/March 2009.
Stage four: highest scoring competitors from all heats are invited to the UK final.
