About the competition - Automobile Technology - Closed
The competition has been designed to reflect the work role of an automotive technician and the
standards that are expected within the industry. The competition consists mainly of practical work
as well as an element of reporting fault diagnosis.
All tasks at heats are at the standard required for ATA servicing and usually last
approximately 45 minutes. The tasks during UK final will be raised in complexity and tend to be
designed to last about 1.5hours.
Dates and venues of competition heats are not yet available; if you have registered already,
you will be notified when you are able to choose which heat you would like to attend, if your
competition is to have heats.

Competition structure
Stage one: This competition is now closed.
Stage two: complete an online test containing auto technology related questions.
Stage three: highest scoring competitors are invited to compete in a heat during
February/May 2010.
Stage four: highest scoring competitors from all heats are invited to the UK final.
How many can enter?
There are no restrictions on the number of competitors that can enter from any one organisation.

Who can enter?
The competition is intended for technicians working towards their S/NVQ Level 3 in vehicle
maintenance and repair. Competitors can be in education and training or working in industry and
will need to have a sound theoretical knowledge of automotive systems shown below and a good
practical ability in diagnosing and rectifying faults within these systems.
Advanced: Those undertaking qualifications up to level 3 (for England, Northern Ireland and
Wales), up to level 6 (for Scotland) or up to three years experience in a working environment.
