Who is this competition for?
This competition is for technicians working in the aircraft maintenance industry. It is based on the standards attained by trainees who have reached NVQ Level 3 or have gained their Part 66 qualification. Competitors will normally have been training for a career in aircraft maintenance for between 2 and 7 years.
What does the competition prepare you for?
The competition places you within the role of the aircraft maintenance technician. Aircraft
technicians are concerned with airframes, engines and propellers, which involve the mechanical
hydraulic, pneumatic, avionic and electrical equipment of aircraft. The technician’s tasks range
from changing tyres to electronics, landing lights and radar.
The competition does not prepare you for roles in designing or manufacturing aircraft.
What does the competition cover?
Competitors’ performance will be judged by experts against industry standards.
There will be 3 regional heats and one national final competition for this skill.
