About the competition - Aeronautical Engineering - Mechanical - Closed
The competition has been designed to reflect the role of a mechanical technician and the
standards that are expected within the aeronautical industry.
Competitors will take part in a two day practical competition in a mechanical specialism, in
which they will complete a series of tasks that may include:
- Aeronautical knowledge based assessment
- Hydraulic task – design, build and test a basic hydraulic circuit
- Flying control rigging task
- Engine boroscope and blade blending task
- Sheet metal hand skills task
- Daily inspection (Pre flight check)

Entry Deadline: 19 March 2010
Entry Type: Individual competitors
Competition Type: Mixed
Competition structure
Stage one: enter online by 19 March 2010.
Stage two: complete an online test containing aeronautical engineering related questions.
Stage three: competitors who meet the required standard will be invited to compete in a
UK heat.
Stage four: highest scoring competitors from heats will be invited to compete in the UK
final.
How many can enter?
One competitor per specialism per organisation.

Who can enter?
The competition is for technicians working or training in the aeronautical engineering industry.
The competition is based on the standards attained by trainees who have reached or are working
towards S/NVQ Level 3 or have gained their Part 66 qualification.
Advanced: Those undertaking qualifications up to level 3 (for England, Northern Ireland and
Wales), up to level 6 (for Scotland) or up to five years experience in a working environment.
Further opportunities
There is a City & Guilds qualification available for this competition.
There is the possibility of progressing to an
International WorldSkills competition.
