Who can enter?

The competition is for technicians working or studying in the aircraft maintenance industry. The Aeronautical engineering competition is based on the standards attained by trainees who have reached S/NVQ level 3 or have gained their Part 66 qualification. The competition is open to all from education, service and industry.

How many can enter?

One competitor per specialism per organisation.

Assessment criteria

Competitors will take part in a two day practical competition, in which they will complete a series of activities and tasks that may include:

Mechanical:

• Hydraulic task – design, build & test a basic  hydraulic circuit
• Flying control rigging task
• Engine boroscope and blade blending task
• Sheet metal hand skills task
• Daily inspection (Pre flight check)

Avionic:

• Fault finding to circuit diagram level
• Fault finding to block schematic diagram level
• Fault finding on integrated avionic system
• Aircraft wiring repair task to include
• Daily inspection (Pre flight check)

Competition structure

Stage one: enter online between 7 January – 9 April 2009.

Stage two: each competitor must complete and submit a screening test.

Stage three: competitors that meet the required standard will be invited to compete at the UK final.
