Top performers may also have the opportunity to represent the UK in Jewellery making at an international level at WorldSkills Calgary 2009 or London 2011.

What does the competition cover?

Stage one: Competitors must go through a screening test to ensure that they have the relevant skills needed to compete in the jewellery competition. The screening test can be downloaded from the top of the page and must be returned to Melanie.carter@ukskills.org.uk by Monday 30th June 2008.

Stage two: Competitors who demonstrate the level of skill required will be invited to compete in a 2 day UK final. Finalists will be asked to complete a task which will involve making a piece of jewellery to a given specification within 14 hours.

The competition will cover the interpretation of a practical brief where the competitor will construct a piece of jewellery and be judged on the similarity to the drawing; sawing; soldering; surface finish and dimensions.

The Practical brief will be issued to entrants at the beginning of the 2 day competition and time will be allowed for candidates to familiarise themselves with the task presented.

Accommodation and travel expenses will be paid for the finalists selected to compete at the 2 day UK final.
