Who is this competition for?
There are 2 competitions in floristry:
• Trainee florists with less than 2 years’ experience gained in education
or employment. There is no upper age limit.
• Trainee florists with between 2 to 7 years’ training experience gained in
education and/or employment. There is no upper age limit.
What does the competition prepare you for?
The competitions place you within the role of the florist. Florists prepare flowers and plants
for sale, usually for decoration, celebrations and ceremonies.
The florist selects correct quantities of cut flowers, foliage, plants, containers and
decorative accessories and works with them to enhance their value while incorporating principles
and elements of design such as balance, colour and form.
The florist may be employed or self-employed, generally in small shops and other commercial
premises. Floristry is a popular activity for new businesses and self-employment; most floristry
businesses have fewer than 5 employees.
What does the competition cover?
The competition will be in two stages:
Stage one: competitors will attend a regional heat
Stage two: the highest scoring competitors will be invited to compete at the UK
Final
What happens if I win?
UK Gold winners will be invited to a high profile national awards event.
