Who is this competition for?

This competition is open to anyone who have an interest in fashion design, production and fashion business management. As a guide to its scope and standard: the competition has been designed to support the development of people preparing to be fashion designers through level 3 training programmes.

What does the competition prepare you for?

The competition places you within the role of the fashion designer. Fashion designers design clothes for designer labels or for the mass production clothing industries. Designers can work for haute couture firms, produce their own collections or work as commercial designers for clothing manufacturers, producing designs for the mass market. Designers usually produce designs for two seasons ahead, collaborating with other staff such as buyers and forecasters.

To be a fashion designer you need to be artistic and creative with an eye for colour, texture and pattern. You also need good drawing and production skills, together with an understanding of the properties of different fabrics.

What does the competition cover?

This is a ‘mixed’ competition.  The competition is judged at two stages:

Stage one: competitors submit their entry for short-listing to stage two, by post.
Stage two: short-listed competitors are invited to the UK final to present their garment and have their outfit shown in a live fashion show.
