SkillBuild, construction’s biggest skills competition is searching for the best young builders across a variety of construction trades:
- Bricklaying
- Cabinet Making
- Carpentry
- Joinery
- Painting and Decorating
- Plastering
- Stonemasonry
- Wall and Floor Tiling
- Roof Slating and Tiling*
- Roof Sheeting and Cladding*
- Built Up Felt Roofing*
- Single Ply Roofing*

Who can enter?
SkillBuild is open to all 17-21 year olds currently studying any of the competition trades at S/NVQ level 2/3 through FE Colleges or work based apprenticeships.
Competition structure
Stage one: SkillBuild 2009 heats – 13 competition heats take place across England, Northern
Ireland, Scotland and Wales (competitions in Northern Ireland are organized by SkillBuild NI)
during April to June 2009.
Competitors have to complete a specific project to complete designed to test both practical
skills and related knowledge. Competitors compete against the clock and each other.
Stage two: SkillBuild 2009 UK final – highest scoring competitors across all heats that meet
the required standard will be invited to compete at the UK final over a three day national event in
October 2009.
In the spirit of SkillBuild, the national final is an opportunity for all involved to
celebrate excellence in construction training.
