Who is this competition for?

This competition is for young engineers currently enrolled on NVQ programmes at levels 2 or 3.

What does the competition prepare you for?

In addition to providing an invaluable opportunity for competitors to pit their skills against the best in the UK, this competition is designed to identify the national young refrigeration engineer champion.

What does the competition cover?

This competition covers the design and installation of components of a small cold store and a small air conditioning unit. The skills assessed include:

•    Electrical wiring
•    Pipework installation
•    Brazing
•    Pressure testing
•    Refrigerant charging
•    Leak testing
•    Fault finding
•    Commissioning
•    Decommissioning

Competitors are also assessed for their knowledge of work planning, layout design, environmental protection and health and safety

What happens if I win?

The national winner will be invited to a high profile national awards event.

If eligible, outstanding national winners may be selected for further training to prepare them to compete internationally, and ultimately at a WorldSkills Competition.
