Regional Competitions for Intermediate and Advanced
Reduction in team size from 4 competitors to 2, plus 1 assistant. The assistant may stand in
as a main competitor if one of the others is unable to compete in a final. It would be advisable
that the assistant is within the WorldSkills age bracket. He/she will not be able to advise during
the competition, only help where directed by the main team members for basic manual operations such
as supplying materials and digging out but not levelling, laying or setting out etc.
The plot size is also reduced from 6m x 5m to 5 x 4m.

Who is this competition for?
There are two competitions open to teams of four:
• Intermediate (up to 2 years’ training and/or experience of employment)
• Advanced (2 to 7 years’ training and/or experience of employment)
Please note that for the Advanced competition at least 2 team members need to be within the
WorldSkills age-range. This means that they must have been born on or after 1 January 1987.
A further, higher level competition, is under development for 2008.
What does the competition prepare you for?
The competition provides competitors with an opportunity to test their skills in many different aspects of the landscape gardener’s work role. The teams will work to a design and complete their garden in one day as part of the regional competitions and over three days for the UK final.
What does the competition cover?
The competition will be in two stages:
Stage one: regional competition teams of 4 will be provided with a garden design in advance
of the competition. This is a one day competition.
Stage two: UK Final teams of 2 (within WorldSkills age) will compete over three days. The
garden design will be provided in advance. The UK final will cover a wider range of tasks than
experienced during the regional stage.
