About the competition - Garden Design
This competition tests a selection of skills drawn from the day-to-day work of the garden
designer. It replicates the working conditions of a professional garden design studio.
The range of skills to be tested will include:
- Customer service
- Design
- Drawing
- Presentational skills
- Time management
- Work management
It will test competitors horticultural, construction, materials and financial knowledge and understanding.

Entry Levels: Advanced

Competition Type: Live
Who can enter?
This competition is intended for those undertaking a relevant garden design programme of study
or training at level 3.
Advanced: equivalent to two to seven years of training and/or experience of employment,
or a level 3 qualification.
How many can enter?
This is a competition for individuals. Up to three competitors per organisation.
Assessment criteria
Competitors will be assessed on the following criteria:
- Application of design principles
- Conformity to briefs
- Presentation skills
- Application of knowledge
Competition structure
Stage one: enter online between 7 January – 9 April 2009.
Stage two: competitors will be invited to compete in the UK final.
