About the competition - Electrical Installation

 

Competitors will undertake a series of practical tests based on real-life work which will demonstrate their abilities and highlight their outstanding skills in the electrical installation industry.

Who can enter?

This competition is intended for those employed in the electrotechnical industry and who are either working towards or have just completed an S/NVQ level 3 qualification related to electrical installation.

How many can enter?

Generally only one competitor per organisation can be registered. However in exceptional circumstances more than one will be considered.

Assessment criteria

 
  • Working safely
  • Interpreting drawings and wiring details
  • Measuring, marking out and cutting conduit, trunking and cable
  • Skills in wiring and connecting switches, control devices and consumer appliances
  • Testing circuits for continuity, insulation resistance and polarity
  • Efficient use of materials
 

Competition structure

Stage one: colleges, centres and employers identify suitable candidates and register their entry to the appropriate contact (English and Welsh entries to SummitSkills by March 2009. Entries from Scotland and Northern Ireland see SECTT and ETT separately).

Stage two: candidates will be invited to participate in skills competition events across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales (Spring/Summer 2009).

Stage three: highest scoring competitors meeting the required standard will be invited to compete at the UK final.
