Who is this competition for?
This competition is intended for young people and adults from 16 years of age up to the age limit for the next WorldSkills competition. As such, competitors must be under 23 years of age in 2009, by having been born on or after 1 January 1987. Competitors are invited from all the normal entry routes to the sector.
What does the competition prepare you for?
The competition prepares you to act as an electrician and to represent best practice in the building services engineering sector.
What does the competition cover?
The competition tests competitors’ performance in a selection of tasks drawn from the role of
the electrician. The competition will comprise a selection of tasks in
• Measuring and marking installation materials and equipment
• Measuring and installing equipment and pipes
• Manual bending, sawing, drilling and de-burring
• Working with and assembling materials made from metal and plastic
• Wiring and connecting switches, control devices and consumer appliances
• Modifications and additions
Subject to demand, there will be a preliminary stage or heats, followed by a national final
competition.
What happens if I win?
Winners of the preliminary stage or heats who meet the required standard will be invited to
compete in the national final competition. The national winner will be invited to high profile
national awards events.
Subject to eligibility, outstanding national winners may be invited to compete for a place in
the UK’s team for a future WorldSkills Competition.
